Miss Potter Brings In the New Year

The new year arrived in my household quietly and peacefully - exactly as I'd hoped! My husband and I arrived home late the evening of the 30th and we were both tired from the business of the week and traveling. So we spent New Year's Eve at home, lounging about - in our pj's all day - watching movies. We nibbled on a honey glazed ham in our chairs in front of the TV! We saw a movie released in January 2007 that we had never seen before, but we both loved. I have always loved Beatrix Potter. I love her art and her charming, inventive stories. One of my favorite baby gifts is a Beatrix Potter book set. The movie, Miss Potter, is about Beatrix Potter's life during the time period her early books were published. She actually lived a life of personal struggle in spite of the fact that her family had considerable wealth. Renee Zellweger is wonderful as Miss Potter. The movie was absolutely charming - one I'd like to own. So...if you have a little free time that you would like to fill with charming entertainment, plan to see Miss Potter.

Hubby and I closed out the evening from 10:00 PM to 1:00 AM watching the New Year's Eve coverage on all the networks. Did it break your heart to see Dick Clark on ABC? And did Kathy Griffin on CNN with Anderson Cooper disgust you? What's up with that combo anyway? I can't imagine a more ill matched couple to host anything. He looks and acts intelligent and conservative. She acts like a disgustingly crass nitwit.

Today, New Year's Day, has been just as restful as yesterday. Like most of the American male population, my husband has been watching football all day on his big screen. I decided this morning after a nice hot whirl tub bath, to take my day of relaxation a step further and stay in my nightgown all day - a secret love of mine which I rarely get to do! Two days in a row without getting dressed - wow! Call the clothes police! I have been watching Irene Dunne and Cary Grant on Turner Classic Movies all day. What fun! I love the old romantic comedies.

I hope all of you have had a restful and peaceful beginning to 2009 as well. If not, plan a couple of hours to hide out and watch Miss Potter in your nightie!

Hi Kathy, There are few things better than nesting in and wearing pj's and watching movies all day. I watched Dick Clark also last night and it made me so very sad. When I was in high school my friends and I would come home from school and watch Bandstand. Dick Clark looked the same for so many years. I admire him for his determination. I wish you the very best in 2009.
Hugs,
Sweetie

Happy New Year! Your New Year's Eve celebration sounded similar to ours. We love to stay home and watch the big event on TV. And, yes I agree. Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper made for a bad broadcast pair.

I went to bed early. Like 9 pm. So I missed Dick Clark. I was just exhausted from work. It was a long day there. I spent most of today in my sweats which is what I sleep in during the winter. Then I had to get dressed to go to an New Years Day open house at a friend's house. I am glad we went. Fell asleep in the car on the way back. Good thing I was not driving. Hubby doing the same as yours, watching lots of football. He really enjoys all the college games. He prefers them over the pro games. Happy New Year.

Hi Kathy, Your NY's celebration sounds very similar to mine! LOL! And didn't you just love it! Not having to be anywhere, just relaxing and hanging out for two days in PJ's! Kevin and I did! :) I'll have to check out the movie Miss Potter, sounds really good! And yes, Dick Clark was pitiful, but you have to give it to him for giving it his all! Oh and Kathy Griffin...I didn't see her, Thank Goodness! You summed her up without me seeing her, correctly! LOL!

Wishing you many blessings for the coming New Year! ~hugs, Rhonda :)

Hi Kathy!! Happy New Year to you and your family! Thank you so much for stopping by with your sweetness for my Mother. I'm sorry about your husband's father, it's hard living so far away.
Yep, I'm a wild one with my snow white hair!
Be a sweetie,

Your New Year celebration sounds just like something I would have loved! I saw the New Year in with three precious little babies in the NICU while working. The biggest of the three was 3lbs 7 oz..a tiny ball of fiestiness! Glad you got to spend some time on the things that matter most. I enjoy your blog, and thank you for sharing. Hope your New Year is a good one!

We stayed home New Year's Eve and all day New year's as well, except hubby did have to go into work, restaurant manager; so yes they were opened!

I couldn't bear to watch more that a few seconds of CNN's coverage. We mostly watched Fox News with Bill Hemmer and Megyn Kelly. They had a blast!
