A Rustic Vintage Table Scape

CeeKay has been visiting my husband and I for most of October. We've had a blast and we've had the opportunity to do a wide variety of things together. Last week we all drove to Mackinac Island in northern Michigan and we stopped on our way home for a couple of nights at our cottage. Now, even though the cottage is extremely rustic, we had great fun (much to the amusement of my husband) creating a table scape. We used whatever we could find, which included natural elements from the woods (since our cottage sits on 163 acres of wooded land) like leaves and logs from the wood pile, combined with an old screen door, vintage kitchen towels, an oil burning lamp, iron skillets, and letters from a vintage Scrabble game! I hope you enjoy seeing some pictures of the end result. At least we had fun and laughed as we created until about 2:00 a.m.! CeeKay has a Table Scape Tuesday post of her own using some different pictures of our efforts at the cottage. Please visit her too!

As you can see, we used iron skillets for our plates, a log and pine boughs for a centerpiece, and leaf and twine napkin rings.

Place cards were in order...what could be better than vintage wooden Scrabble letters to spell out our names?

Vintage aluminum cups for drinks, please!

A log from the wood pile, some pine branches, colored Autumn leaves, and pine cones made a fine centerpiece.

Looking through an old screen door we used as a backdrop, you can see the vintage towel and oil lamp.

You can see the old wood burning cook stove - yes, I cook on it even though we do have an electric model hidden away behind it! The wood burning stove also heats the cottage, even though we also have a furnace.

Thank you for visiting Mimi's Garden today! I hope you will visit again soon. Table scape Tuesday is hosted by Susan at Between Naps on the Porch. Visit Susan to see many more wonderful entries.

What a wonderful vintage table scape. You are just toooooo creative. Who would have ever thought of using iron skillets as plates. The cook stove reminds me of my husband's grandmother. She always cooked on one. What a wonderful post! How nice to have a blogger friend spend time with you. Now I have to check out CeeKay's blog.
Hugs,
Sweetie

Well, well, well......I am soooo slow!!! I saw CeeKay's post this a.m. (the same tablescape) and just howled with laughter! I did NOT put it together that it was YOU who was the other "designer"!!! I knew at one time that you guys knew each other, but I forgot! I just loved this so much! I would have so enjoyed being a little mousey in a corner watching you two gals set that table! Your cabin seems heavenly--so isolated in the woods!

I enjoyed your family wedding photos, Kathy. I thought I was young marrying in 1968 at the age of 20----you have me beat all to heck! Well, except, that I am OLDER than you and we have been married 40 years!! (gads, I can't believe that number I just typed!).

Hope you're having a great week! dana

Hey Kathy! I think I mentioned last time I posted how many similiarites there were with us! I also have a sister name Kathy, I was a secretary, I love bluebirds, vintage, I married my high school sweetheart in 1971 and we're still in love too! I also have pictures of my family back through the years on their weddings. I hope we get to meet someday. Come to Texas! I don't have a cute cabin like you though! Precious table ideas.

I love you blog. Isn't being a grandparent so amazing!... The most creative cute idea for your table. I'll tell you one of my secrets I do with my grandchildren. They always burst in the door and say, "Grandma, can we have the tea party now.." We have a little glass tea part set, I sit down at their table and we eat cum pits and pretend tea.. I tell them magical stories of fairyland. They love it. Thanks

Delightful posting. I would love to "live" in your cabin. Many, many years since I saw an actual wood cook stove. Never had the experience of cooking on one the way my Grandmother did.
I have a number of cast iron pot% pan, so glad you had enough of the same size to serve as plates.
Very creative.
