Lovely Pink Porcelain

Pink Saturday is here again! Beverly, of How Sweet The Sound is our hostess each Saturday for this fun event. Go to her blog to see the list of Pink Saturday participants.

I have some things to show you today that belonged to my husband's mother. She loved dishes and had many beautiful antiques. The really neat thing about my MIL's impressive collection is that she USED and enjoyed each and every piece. It is something I am trying to learn from her. What am I saving my things for? Life is short and special things should be enjoyed.

This gorgeous vase was hand painted by the mother of a life long friend who died tragically five years ago. He was my husband's closest friend for 50 years. Our friend's mom was a close friend of my mother-in-law. The lady was a very talented painter and her favorite surface to paint was porcelain and she painted mostly roses. The vase is 18 inches tall and the white porcelain is painted with lovely pink roses and green leaves. The vase was a gift to my mother-in-law from her friend who painted it. Long friendships between women are so special, but the sweetest part of the story is this. My MIL passed away in September 2004 and the next Spring, the first Mother's Day after my mother-in-law passed away, my father-in-law gave the vase to me as a Mother's Day gift. I always admired the vase but I cherish it now because it was a gift of double meaning. It was a well loved gift to my husbands mother from one of her dearest friends and the mother of our dearest friend, then it was gifted to me by my FIL because he understood its special significance. What a sweetheart my father-in-law was. He joined Mom in Heaven last year.

This pretty little cream and sugar set is white porcelain with pink roses. It was manufactured by Lefton China Company. It is one of their Rose Chintz patterns but I have not been able to identify which one or the year it was made. Anyone have any ideas? It belonged to my mother-in-law and my husband wanted it when she passed away since it was a set she enjoyed using often when entertaining. It is quite lovely and in very good condition. Both my husband and I enjoy having some of the pieces she so loved entertaining with.

My husband bought this sweet little porcelain box years ago when we were traveling. It's ivory and soft pink. The card on the rose says "Thinking Of You". I think it is just precious.

I just love these southern belles! Their dresses are the softest pink. They are quite detailed, with bonnets to protect their porcelain skin from the hot sun, their sage green sash, the pink posies, and the dainty flowers decorating the skirt. My mother, a southern belle herself, gave these sweet girls to me years ago and I love them! They live on one of my living room tables.

That's about it for my Pink Saturday! I anxiously await the lovely pink posts you all have prepared! Happy Pink Saturday blog friends!
