Plates!

Happy Birthday Julie!

I didn't realize how many plates I had collected until I started looking around at the walls in every room. I have most of them hanging around my house. I am a dish-a-holic anyway so I guess plates on the walls seems natural to me! I have more - I just have to find a place to hang them! Visit Kelli's page to see a list of all the Friday Show & Tell posts!

I bought these plates this Spring at an antique mall just because I thought there were so pretty!

I bought these two lavender plates at an antique store with the artists name on the back, with the intention of hanging them in my newly decorated guest room. When I got them home I was stunned at how close the painted flowers are to the ones in the antique hand painted silk shades in the same room. They really look like they were painted at the same time by the same artist.

Alice in Wonderland - cute, huh?

The back of this little Victorian plate says "Hand Painted in Japan"

This plate has an interesting history. We own 160 acres and a small cottage in northern Michigan. When my husband and I were newlyweds we loved taking trips up there and spending our days walking in the woods exploring. We came upon a homestead area with remnants left behind by the pioneer homesteaders many years before. Most of the items were in poor condition and nothing we wanted. However, I found this plate lying just under the soil when my husband lifted an old bed frame. It has one small chip and of course it is covered with egg shell like cracks, but otherwise it's in good condition. I simply washed the plate, so as not to change the appearance too much, and hung it.

These pink plates and the little bird plate hang in my work/art room.

This is a collector plate from the Seattle Worlds Fair. Made in Japan.

This little Tennessee plate is actually a saucer - no cup. I found it in Michigan but Tennessee is my "home"state - I was excited when I saw it! Made in Japan.

These pink and white plates hang in my kitchen.

Only you and your hubby would find a plate under an old bed frame and still have it 38 years later! All your plates are so pretty and interesting...can't wait to see the other 100 of them I KNOW you have someplace!!

I love your plates! Especially the first one - I just love the colors!!

I normally display my plates. Out on the kitchen counter, window sills... we haven't done a lot on the walls in this house, and cabinets and book shelves.

It looks like you have a lot of space to display your plates!!!

I am always glad to meet a fellow dish-addict! ;)

Your plates are all beautiful. I, too, love pretty plates and have a hard time resisting the urge to buy them. Space to store them is the thing that usually, although not always, will stop me.

Thanks for sharing. Have a wonderful weekend.

You have so many pretty plates, Kathy.
Wouldn't you like to know the history behind the homestead where you found the one plate in the soil?

This is a beautiful collection - and love the stories behind them.

I have quite a few plates around, too, now that I think of it.

I'm not at all sure I'll be able to sew for the girls - I am considering Lasik, so maybe I could if my vision improves greatly. Thanks for coming over again!

I love your plates. For a few years i searched every antique store for miles around for pretty plates. I have a pretty nice collection. I still have quite a few on display but got tired of so many on the wall and took them down. Now I use them to eat off of (novel idea). Sometimes I like to set the table with a variety of plates. It makes for conversation.
Music - I love music. I've had music on my blog for ages but got a little tired of hearing it so I had the automatic play stopped for awhile. It's neat though how easy it is to edit the songs, move them around and delete or add more. I've still got the music going on my Dolls Dolls Dolls blog.
Have a great weekend.

Thank you for commenting on my show and tell quilt this week. I love learning new crafts and am thankful for others who are willing to pass on their talents.

Your plates are so pretty. My favorite is the square one painted in China. The tear-drop has such style to it.
