Autumn Decorating

For Show & Tell this week I would like to show you some of my Autumn decorating. I am not a big fan of Fall even though Michigan is beautiful this time of year. I am focused on the unpleasantness of what is to come far too soon - winter! But my friend CeeKay from Thinkin' of Home will be visiting me in October and she LOVES Autumn. So in spite of my lack of enthusiasm for Fall I have decided to join the crowd and decorate for the season. I'm not finished yet but I'll show what I have completed in one room - our family room. If you want to see some really lovely Autumn decorating, go to CeeKay's blog at the link above.

So far, I have concentrated mostly on my mantle.
The wreath is dried eucalyptus, roses, and pods. I used white twinkling lights, garlands of colored leaves and Burgundy mums for the base. The green bottle on the right of the wreath is an antique hand blown green glass bee trap from Italy.

I added some ceramic pumpkins, one nestled in the leaves and mums, the other resting on a small crystal cake pedestal.
I propped my cream turkey platter up against the bricks. The turkey is a pale gold.

Quite a few years ago my sister brought me this pretty painted clay turkey when she came to our home for Thanksgiving dinner. It was filled with a Fall floral arrangement. I love it and use it every year as an addition to my Thanksgiving buffet.

This amber vintage glass chicken was my mother-in-law's. I think it is a perfect addition to a Fall display.

And these cute little turkey's are actually ceramic salt and pepper shakers. My mother gave them to me a long time ago. I just love them and I use them on the table every Thanksgiving.
My sweet sister-in-law gave me this pretty Autumn leaf candle set. The pictures don't really show you how pretty they are - they have lots of sparkles on the leaf and acorn detail.

A vintage wooden bowl filled with assorted gourds sits on the coffee table.

Even though I am not a fan of Fall, I must admit I do like the way my mantle turned out. It's given me encouragement to move on to another room!

Wonderful. I love the colors of fall. Since we built our home 7 years ago we have planted 17 trees on our 1/2 acre and they all have dramatic colors in the fall---just couldn't resist.

Lovely autumnal collection.

Apart from Christmas, we don't tend to decorate our homes in Ireland with the seasons, which I think is a shame.

Thanks for sharing :)

Your mantle is beautiful! What a shame to miss out on the beauty of fall just because winter is coming. I hope your decorating changes your mind! Jean

Hi Kathy,
Thanks for your sweet comments on my blog. Your decorations look wonderful. I wish I could see them in person. You & Ceekay are going to have so much fun when she visits. I can't believe we'll all be in MI at the same time and not see each other.

Kathy - Like you, I am not a fan of fall. Pennsylvania winters are long and cold. I am a summer person. I love flowers, floating in the pool, and family picnics. You really have a nice collection of fall decor. Your mantle is beautiful. The wreath is exquisite. I guess that I could at least manage a bowl of gourds on the coffee table.

I love your Autumn decorations! It makes me want to start decorating for fall real soon. It sounds like you feel about Autumn the way I feel about Spring. While Spring is always nice, I know what's ahead--a long summer of relentless heat and extremely dry conditions. It gets so old! I would love to take some snow off your hands if you want to send it this way! Have a great day! D~~~~

It is simply beautiful!!! Everything. Everything is perfect. Have you met ceekay before? I have visited her blog several times. Enjoy your time together.

Well, where I live we're now 'downgraded' to tropical storm warning. Which is great news from our vantage point, but where our son lives it's another story...Houston is still in line for the 'big hit' later tonight or early Saturday morning. And we still have power. I've been trying to get as much work done around the house just in case water or power goes out before this storm hits land...I'm done. All I can do that is humanly possible. We've shuttered the windows up and just wait for the worst to pass us.

Thanks again, for your thoughts and prayers.

Oh,my grandmother gave me those same turkey salt and pepper shakers. Your Fall stuff looks lovely. You know, you should move to Arizona. Sounds like you already have a friend here. We are looking forward to great weather for the next 9 months. I always dread May when summer is right around the corner. The heat is almost unbearable. :-)

You know when we lived in Illinois for all of those years (56 of them) I thought that I hated Fall because I knew what was coming next. I think you feel the same way. Now since we have lived here in Savannah Ga and it is mostly hot..I look forward to FAll knowing that there are not big snows coming!! Now I am loving Fall and missing the changing trees. Hopefully next month we are going up to Northern Ga to see the trees!! YES!! You decorate beautifully!! Sandy
