Today is Patriot Day. How could any of us forget the horrors of that day and the many, many days afterward as we watched hundreds of people labor at what had been the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon and thousands wait for news of their loved ones. Religion and political affiliations melted away as we all became one mass of broken hearts on September 11, 2001. Perhaps Patriot Day will remind us over and over that we are all alike in every way that matters. What a comforting knowledge to claim!
The theme of this Psalm is that we can depend on God for help. It was written for the ascent to Jerusalem. Though the author is anonymous, it is suggested that it was written by Hezekiah. As pilgrims traveled though lonely and dangerous countryside to new destinations, they had no earthly protection. The author looks up into the mountains, no doubt with fear of known and unknown dangers. He wonders aloud, where will his help come from? Then he acknowledges that his help will come from the creator of the heavens and the earth. He states confidently that His creator will not allow him to stumble and will protect him, even in sleep, because His God never sleeps, but watches over him always.
I don't know about you, but that automatically makes my day better, especially on a day like today, when sadness is just simply embedded within the very date: 9/11.

My post may seem a little heavy today but with the promise of your scripture there is much peace for my heart.
Thank you for today's post. We all need to be reminded of the horror of that day and that we are all alike in every way that matters. Please stop by for a visit and pick up your award.

That is a comforting thought that God doesn't sleep, He's in control...we need to trust Him. I like how you fit 9/11 into the ABC's this week. Blessings..
A good post. We should all be reminded of how blessed we are and to remember the families who lost loved ones. Too many innocent lives were taken that day.
Hi Kathy,
What a beautiful scripture and tribute for 9-11. We truly serve a God who keep watch over us no matter what our circumstances. You've painted a beautiful word picture here. Thank you.
God Bless,
Cori
